of medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power distribution grids. The system is
designed for installation in existing and new MV/LV stations. DISCOS^® also provides a platform
for future applications.

System Overview

The DISCOS^® System has been designed to provide the control centre operator with reliable information from MV and LV stations, both under normal operating conditions and during outages. The main components of the DISCOS^® System are:

• DISCOS^® Optical sensors
• DISCOS^® Opti module
• DISCOS^® SmartCom RTU module.

The optical sensors are clamped directly onto the MV/LV conductors, one per phase, and connected to the DISCOS^® Opti module. Each DISCOS^® Opti module handles three optical
sensors. The communication between the sensors and the DISCOS^® Opti module is done
through a non-conductive fibre cable, which ensures electrical isolation between power system conductors and the measuring system. Through a CAN bus, each module is connected
to a DISCOS^® SmartCom RTU module. The DISCOS^® SmartCom RTU module is the central processing unit for the measurements and calculations done by DISCOS^®.
